Don: I think your articles hits on an important point and that is lawyers are good with words but not with numbers. Another nice thing about using mediation is that mediators can come from a variety of backgrounds including law, mental health and in my case, finance. The types of couples you describe above are my exact clients: the high net worth types with complicated financial portfolios. And while it's not my job to tell them where to invest by at least having the understanding of the complex financial matters before them, I can bring in the appropriate individuals (like you said) to help level the playing field and craft an agreement that is fair and equitable to both. Thanks for the nice article, Joseph Dillon

Yes, confused about the parents still living together and still arguing in front of them. So everyone is miserable and waiting for the Real Estate Market to get better. That surely could take years in New York, New Jersey and across the whole country.

Don: in addition to the financial considerations of living together post-divorce, you have to also examine the effect it has on the children as imagine their confusion when they see mom and dad still together even though they were told they were going to be living apart. Things here in NJ aren't any better real estate wise so while I understand people want to keep the house, I agree with you: you can't put a price on your sanity. Nice article.
